Arranging the letters two-by-two vertically, they draw each using the background as striping and edging, in various states of 3D repose. The ivory text looks good on the blue body, but doing the coloration backwards this way (light text on a dark background) does a lot to enhance the perspective of the drawings. Without real lines, background, or point of reference, each letter appears to be suspended perfectly in space, just how Burton wanted them to be. A perfectly executed tee.
